Tommy Smith:
The Journey So Far
Tommy Smith is a Manchester-born artist and frontman whose music sits across indie rock, alternative rock and emotionally driven songwriting. After years of performing across the UK as the frontman of The Haciendas, Tommy stepped into a new chapter under his own name, creating a project that gave him more freedom to write honestly and let each song become what it needed to be.
That new chapter began during one of the most difficult periods of his life. In 2025, following the loss of his son Elias during a twin pregnancy, Tommy turned to songwriting as a way of processing grief and preserving his memory. The result was “Lullaby in the Sky”, a deeply personal tribute released in support of Twins Trust and to raise awareness of TTTS. The song reached #1 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter Chart and broke into the iTunes Top 40 across all genres, but more importantly, it reminded Tommy why music had always mattered so much to him.
From there, the Tommy Smith project began to take shape. Rather than building everything around one fixed sound, Tommy writes from the story first and allows the music to follow. Some songs are driven by big guitars, full-band energy and anthemic choruses, while others are more stripped back and reflective. What connects them is the same focus on honest lyrics, strong melodies and real experiences.
Influenced by artists including Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro, The K’s, The Sherlocks, Courteeners, Richard Ashcroft, Paolo Nutini and Hozier, Tommy’s music brings together the scale and energy of alternative and indie rock with a strong emphasis on storytelling. His songs explore grief, love, relationships, fatherhood, identity and the moments that can completely alter the course of a life.
On stage, the songs are brought to life with a full band, giving the project the impact and presence of a rock act while keeping Tommy’s songwriting at the heart of everything. For him, the aim is not to fit neatly into one genre or follow a formula, but to build a body of work that feels genuine, memorable and connected to the experiences behind it.
The result is a project that can move between intimate and explosive without losing its identity – music built from real stories, designed to mean something both on record and in the room.
